New Delhi, Sep 4 (PTI) Railway production units have failed to meet the deadline for manufacturing coaches, wheels, engines and other items in the first four months of this financial year. At the same time, officials have attributed this to the disruption of the production chain due to the Ukraine crisis.
According to PTI-Bhasha, the latest performance review documents of railway production units have been found, according to which the manufacturing of these essential components of the railways remained below the target in the first four months of this financial year.
A review meeting was held with the General Managers of the factories under the chairmanship of VK Tripathi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Railway Board, in which information about the shortfall in construction till July 25 was given.
For example, for EMU/MEMU train, only 53 coaches were manufactured during this period as against the target of 730 coaches. Of these, 28 coaches were manufactured at Rail Coach Factory (RCF) at Kapurthala, 14 at Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai and 11 at Modern Coach Factory (MCF) at Rae Bareli.
Significantly, Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) and EMU trains operate on short distance routes that connect urban areas with suburban areas.
Concerns were also raised in the meeting on shortfall in supply of MEMU or EMU Electric Propulsion System, 60KVA transformer and switch cabinet.
General Managers were appealed to “immediately address” these “issues” to ensure that “there is no shortfall in construction”.
Railways said the shortfall in production of MEMU and EMU coaches was mainly due to shortfall in supply of “electric” (electric parts). He said that the production did not meet the target due to shortage in supply due to the global crisis arising out of semiconductors.
The production of LHB coaches used in long distance passenger trains also declined during this period. According to the information, ICF, Chennai is 20.4 percent less than the proportionate target, RCF Kapurthala 10.2 percent and MCF Rae Bareli about 56 percent less coaches have been manufactured.
When asked by PTI in this regard, the Railways said that the shortfall in manufacturing of LHB coaches is due to disruption in the supply of wheels as most of the wheels are imported from Ukraine, which has been with Russia since February. Trapped in war.
The railway said, “The wheels that were loaded on the ship got stuck in Ukraine. Now this problem has been resolved. The shortfall in production will be compensated for in the remaining months.
According to the document of the review meeting held in July, it has been discussed during this time how the shortage in the supply of propulsion system, traction motor and engine wheel is hindering the achievement of the production target.
According to the document, “It was highlighted that even companies that do not meet the supply commitments are being given fresh contracts and the period of supply is being given too long.”
According to the document, Railway Wheel Factory is behind the ratio target (proportionate target to full year target for the said period) by 21.96 percent and Rail Wheel Plant, Bela by 64.4 percent.
It has been mentioned in the document that till July, the locomotive production remained 28 percent less than the target.
