Deepak Kumar Jha, a senior journalist living in Delhi, made a tweet related to the Railways today. He has posted two cashmemos of IRCTC on his Twitter account. In it, he has written – 50 rupees on tea of 20 rupees… Overall a tea of 70 rupees… However, he has mentioned GST instead of service charge.
Is it permissible to charge a service charge?
Railway officials say that there is no mistake or overcharging in this bill. He says that in June 2018, the Tourism and Catering Directorate of the Railway Board has issued a letter for this. It states that if a person does not book food in advance in a train like Rajdhani or Shatabdi and he demands for miles or tea etc. during the journey, then it will be supplied to him. But for every mile, the passenger will have to pay an additional Rs 50 as service charge.
What is the arrangement in Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express
Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express are considered to be premium trains of Indian Railways. In this, along with the ticket, food is also booked. Earlier booking of food with ticket was mandatory. But later it was made optional. Meaning that if a traveler wants, he can not book his food. Such passengers will be charged only for the ticket and not for the food.
When will have to pay 50 rupees extra charge
Railway officials say that the first food is given to the passengers of the train who have already deposited money. Passengers who have not already opted for miles but if they demand T or miles etc. in the train, then they will have to pay an additional Rs 50 for every mile. Sometimes the train gets late. In such a situation, the passengers who have already paid for the money get food without any extra money. But those who have not paid for the food, will have to pay an additional Rs 50 in addition to the fixed charge for the food.
