Addressing industry body FICCI’s Global Skills Summit, Pradhan said, “We can clap with two hands and not with one. This means that the industry needs to do more work towards skill development of the workforce.
“I see less industry participation here. I am looking at training partners and beneficiaries, but where is the industry?
Pradhan said that the Center is spending huge amount to implement various incentives to make India the manufacturing hub of the world. But this will be possible only when the country has a skilled workforce and that is why the industry also needs to come forward.
“Why is the government introducing various reform programs like the Production Based Incentive (PLI) scheme? We are spending lakhs of crores per sector because we want to make India the manufacturing hub of the world.
“This will be possible only when we have a skilled workforce. The government is giving you (industry) various incentives and is also spending a lot on skill and training capacity building. The industry should also come forward from its side.
He also said that the government will soon prepare a roadmap for digital universities.
