The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of coconut shells for the year 2022 session.
“The MSP of Milling Copra of High Average Quality (FAQ) has been fixed at Rs 10,590 per quintal for the 2022 season from Rs 10,335 per quintal in the year 2021,” an official statement said. Similarly, the MSP of Gari-Gola coconut has been increased to Rs 11,000 per quintal for the year 2022 from Rs 10,600 per quintal in the year 2021.
This increase in MSP ensures a profit of 51.85 per cent for copra milling and 57.73 per cent for ball copra over all India weighted average cost of production.
“The increase in MSP of copra for the year 2022 season is in line with the principle of fixing the all India weighted average cost of production at a level of at least 1.5 times…,” the statement said.
According to the statement, this decision is based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). This is one of the important and progressive steps towards doubling the income of farmers by the year 2022, which assures minimum 50 per cent profit as profit.
It added that the National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. and the National Consumer Co-operative Federation of India Ltd. will continue to function as central nodal agencies to administer the support price at MSP in the coconut growing states.
