Speaking on the occasion of inaugurating the new premises of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry – ‘Vanyanya Bhawan’, he said that exports play an important role in transforming a country from developing to developed.
Modi said the country’s exports (goods and services) stood at $670 billion (Rs 50 lakh crore) during the last financial year, despite various constraints at the global level.
He said the country’s commodity exports stood above $418 billion (Rs 31 lakh crore) in 2021-22 against the target of $400 billion (Rs 30 lakh crore).
Buoyed by this success of last year, we have now increased our export targets and doubled our efforts to achieve them. To achieve this new goal, collective effort of all is very necessary.
The Prime Minister said, “Representatives of Industry, Exporters and Export Promotion Council are here. I would urge them to set for themselves not only short term but also long term export targets.
He said that the people associated with trade, commerce and MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector will be greatly benefited by the new Vyapari Bhawan.
The Prime Minister also launched a new portal ‘Niyat’. He said that the export portal would provide the vital data to all the concerned parties without any delay.
Through the Export (National Import-Export Records for Annual Analysis of Trade) portal, the concerned parties will be able to get all the necessary information related to India’s foreign trade at one place.
He said that the government is working for ease of doing business and increasing exports. New domestic products like handlooms are reaching new markets.
Modi said that exports play an important role in making a developing country a developed nation. For the last eight years, India has been continuously increasing its exports.
He said that better policies have helped a lot in increasing exports, easing the process and taking the products to new markets. Today, every department of the government is giving priority to increasing exports with the vision of ‘Government’. ,
Modi said, “Exports from new areas are increasing. Exports from many aspirational districts have now increased manifold. The 55 per cent increase in exports of cotton and handloom products shows how the work is being done at the grassroots level.
Referring to the free trade agreements signed with the United Arab Emirates and Australia last year, he said that there has been considerable progress in negotiating such agreements with many other countries.
The Prime Minister said, “Identifying new markets for companies and manufacturing of goods according to their needs is very important for the progress of the country.”
He asked each department to periodically review the portals and forums which have developed in recent times.
Modi mentioned the new infrastructural facilities of the ministry and said that this is also the time to resolve to ease of doing business and ease of living.
Modi said the government has done away with over 32,000 unnecessary compliances for ease of doing business.
He said that there should be no hindrance in communication with the government and easy access to the government is one of the prime priorities of the government.
On manufacturing, the Prime Minister said that the number of mobile manufacturing units in the country has crossed 200 and today there are 2,300 registered fintech startups in India as against 500 four years ago.
Regarding the export portal, he said that it would help in providing real time data to all the concerned parties.
Through this portal, important information related to more than 30 commodity groups exported to more than 200 countries of the world will be available. In the coming time, information related to district wise exports will also be available on this. This will strengthen the efforts to develop the districts as major export hubs.
