Sources said that the import of these edible oils is affected due to the cost of foreign oils and this time there has been good production of other indigenous oils, including mustard, in the country, which is meeting the shortage of imported edible oils. He said that there is a huge demand for Mustard Oil and Mustard Refined Oil in entire North India including Uttar Pradesh. But going forward, there may be a problem in the case of mustard, so it is very important that Hafed (which also has two oil mills) prepare a stock of mustard by buying it at market price, which will come in handy in times of crisis. There is no other alternative to mustard oil. This time being the cheapest, there is a huge consumption of mustard and it is also accessible to the poor consumers.
Sources said that the government should emphasize on increasing oilseeds production in the country to achieve self-reliance in oil-oilseeds matter. If farmers continue to get good prices, they themselves will try to increase production. The government will have to keep monitoring the interests of the farmers from time to time only by keeping a watch on the market.
Sources said soybean oil oilseeds, palmolein Delhi and palmolein Kandla oil prices remained at their previous levels due to sluggish demand due to costlier imports.
