The Ministry of Power said in a statement on Tuesday that Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. CESL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EESL, has achieved a significant milestone of distributing 50 lakh LED bulbs under Project Crore of Gram Ujala programme.
Gram Ujala Yojana is being implemented in rural households of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
CESL had launched the scheme in March this year to distribute LED bulbs in villages at affordable cost i.e. Rs 10. This month, on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day, 2021, CESL achieved an important target of distributing 1 million LED bulbs in a single day.
CESL is providing high quality seven-watt and 12-watt LED bulbs with a three-year guarantee at a cost of Rs.10 per bulb in lieu of conventional bulbs. Under this program each family can get a maximum of five bulbs.
With this, it is estimated that 71,99,68,373.28 units of electricity savings per year in rural areas of the said states. This will save around Rs 250 crore annually in the form of cost. This program will run till March 31, 2022.
Mahua Acharya, Managing Director and CEO, CESL said, “This program is being run to ensure holistic development of the rural environment… Working on the financial model of carbon credit, we are working towards the completion of ‘Project Crore’. When done, we will expand this program to the villages of other states also.
