2000 crores saved by the government
During a meeting with investors, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recalled an old incident and told how he had saved Rs 2000 crore. He told that in the year 1995, he had rejected a tender from Reliance, from which he had saved 2000 crores. He said that his move had angered Dhirubhai Ambani and Balasaheb Thackeray badly. He said that he did not care for anyone.
Reliance’s tender canceled
In 1995, he was the Minister of State and a tender from Reliance had come to him for the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. That tender was worth Rs 3600 crore, which Nitin Gadkari felt was too much. In such a situation, he rejected the tender of Reliance, due to which not only Reliance’s Dhirubhai Ambani, but the then Chief Minister also got angry. When he asked why you did this, Gadkari told that he will raise money from the public for the project. At that time people were laughing at his words.
