Ravindran said these things in a program of a media group. He said, ‘I am not calling layoffs right, but when you buy companies, many people lose their utility. When the world was looking towards efficient growth, you could not turn your back on it. Last year has been a tough one for Byju’s. On the one hand, the company was doing layoffs and on the other hand, it made Argentina’s legendary footballer Lionel Messi as the brand ambassador. This caused a lot of controversy. To this Ravindran said, ‘You cannot sign Messi in a week.’
How did you meet Divya Gokulnath
Ravindran’s wife Divya Gokulnath was also with him in this program. Ravindran told on this occasion how he had met Divya before. He said, ‘She was my student and used to ask the most questions.’ Business magazine Forbes included Divya Gokulnath as India’s second youngest richest person in the list of richest people of the year 2020. Initially, as a student, she had gone to Ravindran to study tuition, but later both of them got married and together they took the company to new heights. Today Divya is heading the company along with her husband and is also on its board.
