Ordering groceries, vegetables and daily necessities will now be as easy as just messaging on WhatsApp. Reliance Industries’ (RIL) e-commerce platform is continuously taking help of WhatsApp to grow its online business to give tough competition to JioMart, Amazon and Flipkart. The new ‘Tap and Chat’ option of the Jiomart app allows users to order groceries through WhatsApp. Delivery is free and there is no minimum order value.
After booking an order on the Jiomart app, customers can either make online payment or opt for cash on delivery option. Mukesh Ambani’s children Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani also took part virtually in the second edition of META (formerly Facebook) program ‘Fuel for India 2021’. Both of them are directors of Reliance Jio Platforms. Akash Ambani said that digital shopping on JioMart through WhatsApp is now like sending a message. It is truly a revolution in digital shopping for consumers. WhatsApp is very easy to use. So the customer does not face any problem in ordering his goods.
Isha Ambani said, ‘Bread, butter, vegetables, beverages, everything that you need in your home that day or that week … can easily order from Jiomart through WhatsApp. Customers can set up subscriptions for regular purchases if they wish. Apart from this, there are also personalized recommendations based on past purchase history.
Meta’s 9.99 percent stake in Jio Platforms
In April last year, Meta had invested $5.7 billion in Reliance Industries’ digital and telecom arm Jio Platforms for a 9.99 per cent stake. The aim of this partnership was to connect over 400 million WhatsApp users and five lakh retailers on Reliance’s network. Important in this is cheap internet, which is available to 425 million customers of Reliance Jio. Orders are fulfilled using Reliance Retail’s large network of retail outlets.

Now prepaid customers of Reliance Jio can recharge mobile phones using WhatsApp. Akash said, “Jio and Meta teams are working together. With this we are opening more and more avenues for working together. In this episode, there is a recharge of Jio prepaid phone through WhatsApp. Recharging Jio on WhatsApp is very simple, it is completed in just one or two steps. It has made things easier for Jio customers.
