Sanjay Singh: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate on the petition of Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi liquor scam case. The next hearing in this case is now to be held in the second week of December. On the petition that the arrest and remand were illegal, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to ED and sought their reply regarding the arrest.
It is noteworthy that while hearing the petition, the court said that instead of challenging the arrest, it would have been better to apply for bail in the lower court. However, the Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti has asked the Center and ED to respond to the notice issued in this case by December 11, 2023.
Big blow to Sanjay Singh from Delhi High Court
It should be known that before this Sanjay Singh had received a big blow from the Delhi High Court. While hearing this case, the court had said that the law is equal for everyone, be it a leader or a common man. The arrest of Sanjay Singh was declared legally correct by the Delhi High Court. The court had said that there is no need to interfere in the matter at the initial stage of investigation. After this, AAP leaders approached the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Delhi High Court. However, the next hearing in this case will be held in the Supreme Court in the second week of December.
Sanjay Singh: What is Delhi Liquor Scam?
Let us tell you that on October 5, ED had arrested Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Excise Policy case, after which he is currently in judicial custody. It is known that on November 17, 2021, a new liquor policy was implemented in Delhi, which became a bone of controversy and political war for the Kejriwal government. In view of the growing opposition, the government withdrew it on July 30, 2022. According to CBI and ED, irregularities were committed while revising the now defunct Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 and undue benefits were given to license holders. In the ED charge sheet, Sanjay Singh is accused of taking donations worth Rs 82 lakh. At present Sanjay Singh has challenged his arrest and remand only.
