Announcing an investment of Rs 300 crore (USD 40 million), Bajaj Auto Limited has started work on a new facility in Akurdi for the production of electric vehicles. This production plant will have the capacity to produce 500,000 electric vehicles per year. Let us tell you that Akurdi (Pune), is also the site of Bajaj Chetak scooter factory, which made Bajaj Auto a household name in India.
Speaking about the new production plant, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Limited said, “In 2001 Bajaj 2.0 took off on Pulsar, in 2021 Bajaj 3.0 came on the attractive Chetak. Moving on to the Bajaj portfolio, apart from implementing a state-of-the-art ICE platform, which is currently under development, all our R&D Drive Train resources are now focused on creating EV solutions for the future. Thus, this investment in Akurdi complements the entire circle of hi-tech R&D competencies, high-efficiency engineering capabilities, world-class supply chain chain synergies and global distribution network, giving us a market-leading position in EVs in India and abroad. I must move on.”
