Asian Games 2023: Team India has won the gold medal in the women’s cricket competition in the Asian Games 2023. The Indian women’s team performed excellently against Sri Lanka in the gold medal match. In the cricket final of the Asian Games, Team India won the toss and decided to bat first. Team India, who came to bat, was limited to 116 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
Sri Lanka limited to the score of 97 runs
After this, Sri Lanka took over the command of batting, where excellent performance of Indian bowlers was seen. The Indian team restricted Sri Lanka to a score of 97 runs, due to which India was successful in winning the gold medal. Bowler Titas Sadhu performed brilliantly for the Indian team and played an important role in the team’s victory. This 18 year old bowler took maximum three wickets.
Indian bowlers performed excellently
Team India did not have a good start in this gold medal match. In this game, Shefali Verma had scored only 9 runs before getting out. At the other end, Smriti Mandhana maintained her composure. She made a partnership of 73 runs in 67 balls with Jemimah Rodrigues, who came in to bat at number three.
However, after the dismissal of Mandhana (46) on the score of 89, the Indian innings started faltering and wickets started falling one by one. Richa Ghosh scored 9 runs, Pooja Vastrakar scored 2 runs and captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored only 2 runs. However, the Indian bowlers performed brilliantly and took wickets at a rapid pace.
India created history by winning gold for the first time
Let us tell you that cricket has become a part of the Asian Games a total of three times. Previously, on the two occasions when cricket was included, neither the Indian men’s cricket team nor the Indian women’s cricket team had participated in the Asian Games. Indian cricket athletes participated in the Asian Games for the first time and won the gold medal. The Indian women’s team had earlier missed out on winning a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.
