Advisory firm Institutional Investor Advisory Services (IIAS) said in its report on Tuesday that on an average, there is 24 per cent female representation on corporate boards globally. According to the report, improvement is going on in this.
The study titled ‘Corporate India: Women on Boards’ said, “There has been progress in the appointment of women to company boards of directors in India – from six per cent in 2014 to 14 per cent five years earlier.” At present, 17.6 per cent of the directors of Nifty-500 companies are women.
The report said that the number of women directors is increasing, but at a rate of only 1 per cent in the last three years. Based on the current rate, it will take up to 2058 to achieve 30 per cent of women’s participation in India.
In March this year, there were 4,694 directors in Nifty-500 companies, of which 827 or 17.6 per cent were women.
IIAS Managing Director Amit Tandon said that the corporate world should take steps to achieve at least 30 per cent representation of women on the board.
